Smalti from Perdomo of Mexico

Founded in 1949 in Cuernavaca, the Perdomo family established the first glass mosaic factory in the Americas, blending Italian smalti traditions with Mexican materials and craftsmanship. Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Juan O'Gorman all used Perdomo mosaics in major works. Perdomo smalti is prized for its thinner cut, dual usable surfaces, and rich, naturally varied colour. Considered slightly easier to cut than Italian smalti, it offers greater tonal subtlety, making it ideal for expressive, high-quality mosaic work.

These smalti are sold in 100g bags which contain
approximately 40 pieces.  Colour mixes are also available in 250g bags.
Size: Individual smalti are cut by hand so measurements are not precise.  The sides of each smalto measure between 1 and 2cm.

Coverage: 100g of smalti should cover an 8cm x 8cm square, 500g should cover an 18cm x 18cm square, and a kilogram should cover a 25cm x 25cm square.

You should always wear a mask and eye protection when cutting smalti.
