Safety goggles
All-important eye protection to be used while cutting tesserae
INFORMATION
Look after your eyes while cutting your tesserae. These goggles will protect you from flying chips of stone or ceramic and slivers of glass. If you’re a beginner you should get into the habit of wearing eye protection whenever you are cutting - even the most skilful and experienced mosaicists still send out flying splinters.
The lenses of these goggles have an anti-scratch and anti-fog coating. The rubberized orange layer means that they tend to fit against your skin well and are comfortable to wear. These provide good protection but are not hugely heavy and feel relatively slimline. The black elastic strap is easy to adjust and the buckles are good quality hard plastic.
If you're a glasses wearer please note that these are NOT the kind of goggles that will fit over your spectacles.
These goggles are made by Portwest and are certified to British Standard EN166 1.B.34. This means that they can be worn for long periods at work, that they will resist a medium energy impact (classified as a small object travelling at 120 metres per second), and are resistant to dust particles over 5 microns.
