The new London School of Mosaic is an exciting and important development in the world of British mosaic. It is the first art school in the UK specialising in Mosaic Studies. It offers a 1 year Mosaic Diploma as well as short weekend and evening courses. It also works within the community and seeks to use mosaic to enhance public spaces.

All on-site courses take place at the London School of Mosaic, 181 Mansfield Road

Mosaic Workshop co-founder and renowned mosaicist Tessa Hunkin has created and presents this course which covers 100 years of mosaic history from the 1890's to the 1990's. The course is made up of nine 30 minute lectures which can accessed at anytime to suit the student's own availablilty.

Courses in Brixton by South London Mosaic

South London Mosaic is a studio run by highly experienced Italian mosaic artist Giulia Manzoni where you can learn the ancient art of Mosaic through standard and short weekend courses. Giulia is a graduate of the Splimbergo Mosaic School in Italy and has been teaching mosaic in the UK at Southbank Mosaics and more recently at the London School of Mosaic.

Classes are held every Tuesday evening from 6.30 to 9pm in the Community Art Room, in the Crypt of St John’s on Bethnal Green, 200 Cambridge Heath Road, Bethnal Green, E2

Students who are new to the craft start with a small project to familiarise themselves with the techniques, tools and materials.   Students who have already done mosaic can work on their own projects in the classes and receive tuition and guidance as necessary.

There is a limited range of materials in the studio but students may want to use their own for particular projects.  As well as using mosaic tiles students are encouraged to use recycled materials such as crockery and old ceramics.

Liz Tiranti (de Ath) runs workshops from her studio in Hove. She has over 20 years of experience working to mosaic commission and teaching. Now specialising in sculpture for mosaics she offers group  and one to one courses on all aspects of sculpting and rendering polystyrene ready for mosaic work. It is a robust, lightweight method of creating forms for outdoors. Mosaic Workshops with Hannah Griffiths, in

Battle, East Sussex.

Hannah runs mosaic workshops encouraging people to explore and experiment in the relaxed, creative environment of her studio in Battle.
On a one day group workshop Hannah will teach you the skills you need to create a small project of your choice such as a house number, a mirror frame or an image.  A gorgeous range of materials including glass, ceramic and mirror tiles are included, but you may wish to use your own broken crockery or treasured objects for particular personal projects.
In addition to group workshops, Hannah offers one-to-one classes and workshops for two people sharing.  These are a wonderful opportunity for more individual tuition.

Sussex by Sue Penrose Mosaics

One and two day weekend adult mosaic courses, for beginners upwards. Groups are small, (maximum 5),friendly and tailored to individual needs. They take place in my lovely flat near brighton and Hove seafront, or in our glass art workshop on Shorham Beach. Weekly classes are also held in Shoreham on a Thursday morning.

Costs £95 for one day, or for a 4 week block of drop-in Thursday classes. £180 for a 2 day course.  All tools and materials provided and included in the price.

Professional Artist Melanie Watts runs a variety of courses from her large studio in historic Stony Stratford, opposite the famous Cock and Bull Hotels. 
Suitable for beginners and improvers the artist runs regular Saturday workshops from 10-4pm, with a variety of inspirational themes. The day is fun and therapeutic, and you can immerse yourself in beautiful reference and materials for the day, as well as enjoying the gorgeous town of Stony Stratford with its amazing history, artisan shops, bakeries, pubs and restaurants.

Mosaic Courses in Meriden, West Midlands

Ann Tyson is running 1-day workshops in which you will be able to make your own beautiful mosaic. Take a lovely piece of art home with you that you have designed and made yourself and enjoy the company of a small relaxed group in a beautiful rural studio. You will learn how to use mosaic tools, how to cut shapes and which adhesives and materials to use. You will learn how to decorate a plant pot, stepping stones or a plaque for your wall. You will be able to choose on the day if you prefer to create an indoor or an outdoor mosaic.

Mosaic Courses in Bromsgrove, Worcs.

From her cosy, well equipped Worcestershire studio mosaic artist Jackie Nash offers informal mosaic workshops for small groups. Full-day workshop’s run from 10.00am to 4pm and cost £96.00 per day.

Students will have the opportunity to complete a mosaic using their own or one of Jackie’s designs. Mosaics are produced on pre-cut boards or mesh. Lots of different bases and options are available as well as a vast array of mosaic tiles. Participants usually produce a mosaic which is approximately 30cm x 30cm which is the size of mosaic you can expect to complete in one day.

The workshops teach you how to cut stained glass using a variety of cutting tools to create beautiful, bright garden mosaics.  Full work and suppliers sheets are provided as well as details of the tools & equipment you need & how to source your materials. 

Sue will teach you how the materials used will make your work waterproof and suitable for year long garden display.  This is an unusual style of mosaic so your work will not only be unique but hopefully the envy of all your friends.
